The TR lost compression on number 1 so head off and new valves and a valve grind. Head back on; no clearance on tappets. What to do? Find shorter valves? Shorten valves? Shorten pushrods? Shim pedestals? The head incidentally is 60 thou undersized which means it is well within specs for adjustment. All suggestions welcome.

Hi Terry
Sounds like new short valves stems. ???? Maybe.???? Very odd. Just a thought you definitely fitted a new head gasket. ???? Otherwise
Simple solution if you are happy to use the fitted valves. Shim up the pedestals. To allow mid range on the tappet adjustment. Might be the easiest way and quickest way. Just make sure rockers don't foul on the tapper cover.

Terry,
Been away so you may have fixed it by now.
As Ian said, most unusual. Did you fit the head or is it with the mechanic who done the head?
What is the height of the top of the valve stem from the rocker gasket matting surface of the head?

Hi Brian,
Obviously the car won't be going to Crookwell. I will have it with me in the Honda so that's something for you to look at.
