Has anyone ever come across PRESSED steel EB and Body number plates rather than brass?
I have found some in a long lost box of bits I got with a June 54 built Long Door 2 over 40 years ago (about TS3550 ish) . They were both painted yellow (like the rest of the car...olive yellow kak colour ) but I have just discovered that underneath the paint they are made of pressed steel, not brass. Otherwise they look identical to brass ones. I recall pulling them off the very original car in about 1975, and my brother subsequently restored it without the plates ( as I said, this box of bits was "long lost")..till yesterday!!!
No reason why anyone would have reproduced them in steel back in the 70;s , the car did have its original commission plate which matched the numbers to within the normal range, so wouldn't have been a stolen car identity change...... but the only ones I have ever seen were brass.
